Moses Lake Distillery was founded in 2020 by Zachary Hughes. With the help of his wife, Liz, the distillery has been up and running as of April 2021.

Zach met Liz in 2015 while they were both living in Hawaii. Following high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps which landed him on the tropical island of Oahu. Liz moved there after graduating from Eastern Washington University in search of becoming a beach bum (and maybe working a little bit too). After Zach put in his time with the Marines, he stayed in Hawaii where he lived on his sailboat in the harbor right across the street from Snappers Sports Bar, where Liz worked as a bartender. He invited her to go sailing and the rest is history!

A few years later, Zach took a job in San Diego working on airplanes and helicopters as a contractor for the military. He reconnected with an old friend who happened to co-own a distillery and invited Zach to help out. He quickly became intrigued with the entire process of operating the distillery including the distilling and barreling process and even the ingredients used. Most of his spare time was spent at the distillery. His day job changed courses yet again when he was hired to work in Moses Lake, Washington which brought Zach and Liz back to the area where she grew up. After settling in, he realized that there aren’t any distilleries in town or even nearby and the idea for Moses Lake Distillery was born.
