SALON SERIES Bats of Washington with Sarah Dubois

Jun 3, 2020 to Jun 3, 2020

Time: 3:00 p.m.

Location: Civic Center Auditorium, 401 S. Balsam

We welcome Sarah back to continue the discussion on the conservation of bats! This new talk is an introduction to the bats found in Washington State, their habitats, life histories, and some of the current threats they are facing. Our bats are an extremely important part of the ecosystem as one of the only predators of night time insects. In addition, she will also be discussing strategies being employed to help combat some of these threats, current research being conducted by Washington Bat Conservation Group and their cohorts, and what you can do to help bats. She will include some ways you can attract bats to your yard, by discussing gardening for bats.

Sarah Dubois is the founder and director of Washington Bat Conservation Group, a citizen science group with a mission to conduct research on Washington bats to help with ongoing conservation methods. They work with agencies and farmers to conduct surveys, with the help of state and federal bat biologists and our sister bat conservation groups in western Washington. The Washington Bat Conservation Group seeks to help our bats by conducting population surveys and researching how each bat species is using its environment to help make environmental improvements to boost bat populations. In addition, they seek to educate the public on the importance of bats and what you can do to help them. Our organization is open to anyone interested in bats, we encourage you to join us on any of our research outings or to help with public outreach.
